International team

For international projects, Temp.architecture joins forces with the New York-based Efficiency Lab. Together they have experience with ambitious completed projects in Europe, Asia, North and South America.

Maarten van Tuijl (1972, Amsterdam) is an architect, publicist and an expert for the EU Programme URBACT. He is also a visiting guest lecturer at the Delft University of Technology and a number of academies.

Maarten graduated as Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design at Columbia University in New York. After working for Rafael Vinoly, Dok architecten and UN Studio, he collaborated with the Japanese architect Naoko Hikami at na-ma architecture on various projects till 2011.

Maarten has been a member of the Dutch Repurposing Team and Lead Expert for the URBACT sub>urban network. Working closely together with Lead Partner Antwerp, Oslo, Vienna, Dusseldorf, the Area Metropolitana Barcelona, Brno, Casoria, Baia Mare and Solin, on the transformation of their post-war urban areas.

Maarten enjoys looking for the most suitable solution for complex challenges together with others, also taking quality of life and beauty into account as important goals.

Tom Bergevoet (1972, Utrecht) is an architect, researcher and writer. After obtaining his Master’s degree in Architecture from the Delft University of Technology.

Tom worked for SANAA (Tokyo), OMA, Architectenbureau Koen van Velsen, and Architectuurstudio Herman Hertzberger, where he helped design the multifunctional Tivoli Vredenburg music centre in Utrecht.

Tom is guest lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment at the Delft University of Technology and the Academy of Architecture at the Amsterdam University of the Arts.

Tom believes that good architecture contributes to its environment in many ways, giving significance to the public realm, reinforcing social and ecological networks, leaving a modest ecological footprint and, last but not least, being highly appreciated by its users. In collaboration with other designers and researchers.

Aybars Asci, president and founder of Efficiency Lab for Architecture, is an advocate of research driven design that combines conceptual clarity with analytical processes such as the use of algorithmic tools and building performance modeling.

As a practicing architect he has close to 20 years of experience, working in New York, London and Ankara, on projects located in North America, Central America, Middle East and Asia.

As Skidmore's former design director, Owings & Merrill LLP, he led multi-disciplinary teams on complex large scale projects for over 14 years, served in the leadership group of the firm with financial, legal and operational responsibilities, including the design leadership of London office.
As an inventor, he holds a U.S. patent for a high performance enclosure system (Patent # 9003727; approved 4-14-2015).

As an educator, he has taught seminars and studios on efficiency, high rise design and environmental systems at The City College of New York, Cornell University, Pratt Institute and Northeastern University.

As an environmentalist, he has advocated environmental consciousness at design and policy making platforms. He is a board member of Center for Urban Disaster Risk Reduction & Resilience (CUDRR+R).
Aybars holds a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design degree from Columbia University.

Robert Geerlings studied law in Amsterdam and New York, was a partner at a large international law firm and, after a practice period of 5 years in New York, has now had his own legal practice in Amsterdam for some time.

Additional positions: Chairman of the Amsterdam Sports Council (2008-2017), Board of the Amsterdam Economic Board and member of the Advisory Board of Topsport Amsterdam (2008-2015).
