Expansion of the Olympic Stadium, Amsterdam
Because the existing Olympic Stadium is a national monument, any expansion of the stadium will be temporary and existing elements must be carefully incorporated.

The aim of this study is to provide insight into expansion options for the Amsterdam Olympic Stadium in preparation for the possible organization of a major sporting event. This study specifically examined how the expansion elements can be reused for events elsewhere. By building the elements from as many standard, lightweight and easy-to-dismantle building products as possible, reuse after a sporting event becomes conceivable.
A global comparison between different expansion models shows that, within the stated requirements, developing a universal, repeatable "expansion unit" with a capacity of approximately 1,500 seats makes various expansion scenarios possible. The attractive thing about such an expansion unit is that - due to its compact size - it is able to spare the high parts in the periphery of the monumental stadium (the light poles, the scoreboard and the stands canopies).
The expansion unit can be used to expand the stadium "to size". By using the unit, the capacity of the stadium can be gradually increased by 1,500 seats.
