Multimobiel
There is an abundance of public space in Amsterdam's western garden cities. The Multimobiel has been developed to temporarily activate these public places without significantly affecting their openness and publicity.
There is public access in Amsterdam's western garden cities
space in abundance. The district provides this space
its own character as spacious, green and
open city district. Yet it is not public green space
experienced by everyone as purely positive. Lots of it
public green space is anonymous and offers too little reason
for (collective) use.
The Multimobiel was developed for these public places
temporarily activate without openness and publicity
to materially affect it. Because of the commitment
of the multimobile people are tried – local residents,
passers-by – to bring together and collective
activities or events.
This changes the public space from one place to another
abstract, green void in a domain to which one
has fond memories.
